Cortex-M3-based MCUs raise speed and memory size
72-MHz microcontrollers have up to 512 Mbytes of flash and need only 27 mA
Taking a step up in performance, the Cortex-M3-based STM32F10x 32-bit MCU family features to up to 512 Kbytes of flash and a 36- or 72-MHz clock. The chips yield up to 1.25-DMIPS/MHz (Dhrystone 2.1) performance with zero wait-state memory access, single-cycle multiplication, and hardware division.
The devices take just 27 mA at 72 MHz and 1.4 μA in backup mode. They have a 1-µs 12-bit A/D converter, a temperature sensor, and USB, SDIO, CAN, and I2 C interfaces. The family includes 28 devices in 36 to 144-pin packages.
The ICs have a 12-channel DMA controller and a static-memory controller that supports NOR and NAND flash, SRAM, and CompactFlash. ($3.72 to $6.51 ea/10,000 — samples available now for all types.)
