Custom optics endure harsh environments

Suitable for protecting viewing systems, sensors, and detectors used in high–vacuum or high–pressure environments, the customizible Meller Sapphire Protective Optics come in plano–convex and –concave, meniscus, and dome configurations. The optics’ 9-Moh hardness lets them withstand exposure to abrasion from fast moving particles, harsh chemicals, and temperatures to 1,000°C.

The optics come in 3/8 to 4-in.-diameter sizes with ±0.001-in. tolerances and can have surface finishes to 40–20 scratch–dig. For use as view­ports or covers in outer space or underwater, they can have various thicknesses, precisely drilled holes, special edge treatments, and A/R coatings.
