Cypress and Torex Semiconductor Announce Joint Solution For High-Performance Wireless Human Interface Devices
Cypress Semiconductor Corp. (NYSE: CY) has announced a partnership with Torex Semiconductor Ltd. of Tokyo, whereby Torex will offer a family of step-up DC/DC converters optimized for operation with Cypress's WirelessUSB™ 2.4-GHz radio SoC (system-on-a-chip) and microcontrollers for human interface devices (HIDs).
Torex family of DC/DC converters optimized to extend battery life for wireless peripherals Designed with Cypress's WirelessUSB™ radio SoC and microcontrollers
Step-up DC/DC converters efficiently convert a changing input voltage, such as the voltage of a battery, to a constant output voltage. A step-up DC/DC converter also allows the use of a single battery cell, or multiple battery cells in parallel, to power devices that would normally require multiple battery cells in series to achieve a higher output voltage. This enables smaller and longer-life wireless peripherals.
Torex's new family of step-up DC/DC converters extends the built-in power management capabilities of WirelessUSB. These devices can be used by customers who are interested in building WirelessUSB-based peripherals that operate on a single AA/AAA battery cell or parallel AA/AAA battery cells. The new devices can also be used in WirelessUSB-based optical mice that utilize optical sensors operating at voltage levels above 2.7V.
