DAS controller features low power

The OXUF943SE direct-attached-storage (DAS) controller is suited for the portable external storage market and is said to use less than half the power of competitive solutions. The chip offers a 3-GHz SATA II host interface along with USB 2.0 and FireWire 800 connections.

The device has an ARM7 processor and a hardware cipher engine supporting AES-128 encryption, and uses only 293 mW. It comes in a 100-pin 14 x 14-mm LQFP package. ($6 ea./10,000 — samples available September.)
