Dc/dc converter adds isolation on chip

Said to be the industry’s smallest isolated dc/dc converter, the ADuM6000 is a 0.5-W device that integrates a proprietary digital isolation technology and a dc/dc converter. It offers a 5-kVrms isolation rating in a 10 × 10-mm package. The digital isolator eliminates the step of securing medical or other safety approvals, such as IEC-60601-1. The device protects itself and end users from exposure to voltage levels that could compromise safety and reliability.

The isoPower dc/dc converter employs switches, rectifiers, and regulators to generate power that is isolated to the same degree as the data channels. The iCoupler technology is based on chip-scale transformers, rather than the LEDs and photodiodes that are used in optocouplers. A dual-channel digital isolator is also available. (Ea/1,000: ADuM6000, $3.96; ADuM6200, $5.12; ADuM6201, $5.12; ADuM6202, $5.12 — available now.)
