Dc/dc converter news

Good news for the power industry — the global market outlook for ac/dc and dc/dc power supplies is set for healthy expansion starting this year until at least 2018. The revenue during these four years is projected to grow by $3.5 billion, according to a new report from IHS Technology. These findings can be found in the forthcoming report, The World Market for AC-DC & DC-DC Merchant Power Supplies. The full report from IHS includes analysis of the opportunities for commodity ac/dc, as well as non-commodity ac/dc and dc/dc power supplies across 22 applications. It also presents market share estimates with 13 separate splits.

In another report, the electric vehicle and its 37 subcategories were analyzed by IDTechEx in the report, “Electric Motorcycles and Three Wheel Electric Vehicles 2015-2025.” The report reveals a market value of over $12 billion for electric motorcycles including e-scooters and maxi scooters in 2025. It is predicted to take off and will include electric vehicles for land, water, and air. Although the report focuses on the market for electric vehicles, the underlying need is also there for the dc/dc converters and power sources that are required for all of them. For example, Yamaha and BMW are entering this business in 2015, and they all need dc power motors. Also getting into this market is Harley Davidson, who is getting opinions on its prototype. But it is small companies like leader Zero Motorcycles and Brammo that are landing most of the orders, demonstrating impressive innovation and going global with them. Then there are the Chinese innovating with impressive maxi-scooters and motorcycles at one third of the price. That grows the market, says IDTechEx, rather than eliminate competition — just look at what happened with conventional motorcycles.
