The second-generation ALD6 series of multioutput dc/dc backlight LED drivers targets LCD screens that are increasingly migrating from cold-cathode fluorescent (CCFL) backlighting to LEDs due to the improved brightness, higher efficiency, and longer life that LEDs provide. Each driver can backlight LEDs arranged in one-, two-, three-, or six-string configurations.
The LED driver features dimming controls with resistive, analog, or PWM inputs that provide smooth LED brightness transitions. The driver has six outputs, each of which can provide up to 50-mA constant-current drive to strings of LEDs connected in series and/or parallel configurations. For a single-string LED configuration, the combined output current is 300 mA. The driver operates with a 10.8 to 13.2-Vdc input voltage and provides 25 to 38-Vdc output voltage. The single-package drivers are available in either DIP or SMD packages. ($27 ea/1,000 available now.)
