Environmental test system takes little space
8.25 x 8.5 x 6.0-in. unit supports extensive parametric testing of
semiconductor devices
The Qube-Pak is a miniature single-position environmental test system
measuring only 8.25 (W) x 8.5 (D) x 6.0 (H) in. Despite its small size, it
is a complete system, containing a thermal-transfer head as well as a
device card, dynamic clock drivers, test electronics, power supplies,
voltage regulators, and communication hardware needed for specific tests.
Temperature set points range from -10 degrees to 250 degreesC and are set
via manufacturer-provided software. Case temperature is monitored and
controlled by a microprocessor on the Qube-Pak's thermal-control board.
The Qube-Pak uses any one of the various thermal-transfer heads available
from the Qube-Pak manufacturer for different device types. Heads are
available for burning in products like die, discretes,
application-specific ICs, and multichip modules. The thermal heads
constantly adjust their own temperature either to deliver or remove heat
to maintain the device under test (DUT) set point, thereby providing
precise case temperature control and eliminating thermal gradients that
occur when power is applied to the DUT. Precise voltage control and
continuous current monitoring is provided to prevent over- and
under-voltage occurrences. User-settable over- and under-voltage
protection limits prevent damage to the DUT. Each Qube-Pak can support up
to three voltage regulator boards to maximize testing flexibility. Power
supplies can be provided with the Qube-Pak, or if desired by the user.
Typical nominal voltage required range from 0 to 48 Vdc. Extensive
parametric testing is possible with the Qube-Pak. For example,
measurements taken for electrical characterization might include
ICEO, I CBO, dc current gain, and collector/emitter/base
saturation voltages. Anywhere from one to hundreds of Qube-Paks may be
connected together to create as many test positions as are needed for a
particular application. (From under $1,000/position, depending on options
installed–stock to 10 weeks.) EJ Systems, Inc. Lawrence, MA Rick
