Two versatile and easy-to-use development kits aid the incorporation of digital light processor (DLP) technology into light-steering applications. The DLP Pico Projector v2 handles high-speed micromirror pattern rates with a wide variety of video frame rates from 50 to 2,400 Hz and can now take input directly from a PC. It is available now from distributors. The DLP LightCommander is a sophisticated modular platform with a core optical module and an LED illumination module.
The LightCommander kit includes PC-based software to control the micromirror and timing for variable-speed spatial-light modulation and uses standard SLR removable lenses. The user-defined control includes binary patterns, 8-bit grayscale, and video projection mode. It has an HDMI input a USB control port, and three BNC camera sync ports. (Pico Projector v2, $349; DLP LightCommander, $2,499 — available 1st qtr)
