Dig pots enable new level of precision calibration in industrial systems
Parts deliver 20 times better resistor tolerance than competing devices
Designed for open-loop applications and systems that demand precision calibration and tolerance matching, the AD5291/2/3 family of 10-bit programmable digital potentiometers features less than 1% end-to-end resistor tolerance error over a wide ±15-V supply range — claimed 20 times better than competing digital potentiometers, allowing designers to improve system control by setting more accurate amplifier gain ranges.
The parts support dual power supplies in the ±10.5 to ±15-V range and single supply operation in the 21 to 30-V range. The 1,024-tap AD5292 and pin-compatible, 256-tap AD5291 feature a 20-times-programmable memory.
The wiper setting of these two devices is controlled through an SPI-compatible port. An internal fuse is blown to permanently save the wiper position. Triggered by a simple software command, the devices need no external power supply to program them, saving cost and PCB area. The 1,024-tap AD5293 features volatile memory.
