Deliver 90% efficiency across all loads

Two digital multi-phase buck controllers target VR11.1-compliant server, gaming/enthusiast and desktop applications. The CHL8316 and CHL8318 are the first digital controllers to offer up to 8-phase control and use patent-pending digital control techniques to meet over 90 percent power efficiency levels across most load ranges. The CHL8510 MOSFET server driver supports these multiphase digital controllers and offers tri-level disable for the power status indicator signal in VR11.1 designs.

The CHL8316 supports up to six programmable interleaved synchronous buck phases. It helps digitally configure the switching frequency of each phase from 200 kHz to 1 MHz. The device stores device parameters in embedded non-volatile memory and a GUI helps modify the parameters. The controller uses a high-speed ADC to address fast transients of >2,000 A/us. The CHL8318 uses eight phase control for high load conditions along with dynamic phase control and adjustable gate drive for mid-to-low load conditions. Custom digital overclocking features help extend the voltage range up to 2.3V, while VID scaling and offset controls and load line adjustment features offer additional performance enhancements. These products also report the operating voltage, current and efficiency through an SMBus. (ea/1,000 CHL8316: $2.49; CHL8318: $3.29; CHL8510: $0.49 – available now.)
