Digital oscilloscope combines spectrum analysis with 5-GHz bandwidth

Rigol has introduced its next-generation digital oscilloscope with real-time spectrum analysis, 5-GHz bandwidth, and 20 GSample/s sample rate.

Rigol Technologies has introduced its next-generation digital oscilloscope built on its new UltraVision III platform that combines an updated oscilloscope technology and its UltraReal spectrum analysis technology with a custom front-end Phoenix ASIC chipset. The StationMax DS70000 digital oscilloscope series is available in 3- or 5-GHz bandwidths.

In addition to the 3- or 5-GHz bandwidths, the StationMax series provides four channels, 20 GSamples/second (GSa/s) sample rate (10 GSa/s on all channels), 1 million waveforms/s capture rate, 2 Gpts maximum storage depth, and high resolution measurements up to 16 bits. Analysis capabilities include real-time spectrum analysis, multi-domain analysis, eye diagram and jitter analysis, high-speed bus compliance, and serial bus decoding.

The previous generation UltraVision II scope offered a 2-GHz bandwidth, 10 GSa/s sample rate (2.5 GSa/s on all channels), 600K waveforms/second capture rate, and 500 Mpts maximum storage depth.

In addition to delivering new performance, speed, and analysis capabilities, the DS70000 also offers a new interface designed for the 15.6″ multi-touch display. The display features an electronically-controlled tilt function to optimize viewing and usability and simplifies analysis by isolating important measurements in separate windows including real-time spectrum view, multiple FFT and math functions, jitter, and real-time eye, said Rigol.

Other features include USB 3.0 host and device communication for storage and computer control, gigabit LAN for high-speed data transfer, new and advanced web control, HDMI for external display, and onboard FTP data sharing.

The instrument also has separate scale and position knobs for each channel and the horizontal for engineers who prefer tactile control. Channel controls are backlit and color coded with Rigol probes.

Rigol also offers a new family of complementary high-speed precision probe solutions. These active differential probes are available in 3.5- and 7-GHz models, which are said to deliver excellent 3- and 5-GHz measurements to the probe tip. These probes feature automatic spacing controls with three user-defined settings, a work light for easier connections, and automatic color-coded LEDs to match the signal on the display.

StationMax oscilloscopes are suited for design and failure analysis engineers working in research, semiconductor, RF, and IoT markets at the chip, device, and system level for debugging and testing, said the company. They allow engineers to easily communicate, control, and access their test data.
