Digital signal controller costs just $1.50

The 16-bit 32-MHz MC56F8006 digital signal controller combines MCU and DSP capabilities, and at just $1.50 is said to be the most cost effective available. Suitable for motor control, digital power conversion, and other real-time applications, the chip takes 50 mA at 32 MHz and 3.3 V and wakes up from a 6.4-mA stop mode in just 6 µs.

The controller has 12 to 16 Kbytes of flash, 2 Kbytes of RAM, a single-cycle 16 × 16-bit parallel MAC, four 36-bit accumulators, two 12-bit A/D converters with 3-µs conversion times, and two differential programmable gain amplifiers. It has a six output PWM with programmable fault capability, a voltage regulator, and I2 C /SPI interfaces, and it comes in a 48- or 32-pin LQFP or 28-pin SOIC package. (From $1.50 ea/10,000 — samples available now).
