The ESD3v3u4ulc damping diode protects the electronics of USB 3.0 ports from electrostatic discharge. USB 3.0 port supports transfer rates up to 5 Gbits/s, is about 10 times faster than USB 2.0 and consumes one-third the power, but is more sensitive to ESD than the older version.
The damping diode absorbs energy released through electrostatic discharge on a USB port to protect equipment from damage. It has a low clamping voltage, a 0.23-Ω dynamic resistance, and its ability to absorb 20 kV energy exceeds the 8 kV called for in the IEC 61000-4-2 standard. The device is available in a TSLP-9-1 package. (From $0.60 ea/10,000 — available now.)
