Major appliances like refrigerators, freezers, and other mechatronic appliances require an efficient way to drive DC motors, bipolar stepper motors, and other loads. Texas Instrument’s DRV8848 is a dual H-bridge motor drive solution fulfills this need while also providing a simple PWN interface that allows easy interfacing to controller circuits.
DRV8848 features multiple output blocks, each consisting of N-channel and P-channel power MOSFETs configured as full H-bridges to drive the motor windings, as well as circuitry for regulating the winding current through a fixed off-time chopping scheme. The device includes a high output current per H-bridge of up to 2 A of current at 12 V from each output; arranging these in parallel raises the current to 4 A, assuming of course, there’s adequate heat sinking. It requires 4- to 18-V Operating supply voltage range
Like most of TI’s H-bridge motor drive products, the DRV8848 is protected against UVLO, OCP, short-circuit protection, and overtemperature.
