64-bit DSPs deliver up to 4800 MIPS
The TMS320C6424 and TMS320C6421 fixed-point digital signal processors deliver a 2.5X price/performance improvement over previous versions with 4,800 MIPS peak at 600 MHz. The chips feature eight 32-bit C64x+ instructions/cycle, EDMA 3.0 with 4.8-Gbyte/s throughput, a 333-MHz DDR2 memory interface, six ALUs, and a 10/100 Ethernet MAC.
They provide 16 or 80 Kbytes of L1D and 16 or 32 Kbytes of L1P and 64 or 128 Kbytes of L2 SRAM cache. Interfaces include two EMIF, a 16-bit 266-MHz DDR2, and an 8-bit EMIFA. The devices also have an EMAC (RMII/MII) or HPI/RMII, two UARTs, I2C, three PWMs, and two 64-bit timers. They are available 16- or 23-mm square BGA packages. ($8.95 to $24.94 ea/10,000—samples available now, prod qty, 4th qtr).
