The PE64904 and PE64905 DuNE digital tunable capacitors (DTCs) are 5-bit, 32-state variable parts that provide a monolithically integrated tuning solution for demanding RF applications and enable frequency-agile tunable networks. The capacitance range is 0.7 to 4.6 pF in discrete 126-fF steps (6.6:1 tuning ratio) in series configuration, and 1.1 to 5.1 pF in discrete 131-fF steps (4.6:1 tuning ratio) in shunt configuration. The Q factor for shunt-configured DTC is approximately 35 for lowest capacitance state (at 1 GHz).
Both three-wire SPI-compatible (PE64904) and two-wire I2 C-compatible (PE64905) serial control versions are available. Based on UltraCMOS silicon-on-sapphire process, the devices feature an RF handling of greater than 38 dBm at 50 Ω and 30 Vp-p, a supply range from 2.3 to 3.6 V, and a current consumption of 140 μA typically at 2.6 V. The DTCs also offer an IIP2 of 105 dBm and IIP3 of 65 dBm typ across 100 MHz to 3 GHz. Housed in 10-lead QFN packages, the parts are immune to latch-up and provide 2-kV HBM ESD tolerance on all pins.
