Dual 14-bit ADC reduces power/size in comm, T&E apps

Dual 14-bit ADC reduces power/size in comm, T&E apps

The two-channel 14-bit, 125-Msample/s AD9645 A/D converter consumes only 122 mW/channel at 125 MSPS — reducing total power consumption by 22% over competing solutions. The device is available in a 5 × 5-mm package, which is claimed to represent a 30% space savings over the nearest competitor.

The new converter meets the performance and size requirements of the latest 3G and 4G multi-standard cellular infrastructure equipment, such as CDMA2000, WB-CDMA, LTE, TD-SCDMA and multi-carrier GSM. The part offers an SFDR performance of 91 dBc at 70 MHz and an IF sampling range of up to of 200 MHz.

Available in a 32-lead RoHS-compliant LFCSP, the part offers a multi-stage, differential pipelined architecture with integrated output-error-correction logic. It is specified over the industrial temperature range of –40° to +85°C. The dual ADC features a space-saving serial 1.8-V LVDS digital output with two lanes per channel.

A pin-compatible dual 12-bit version, the AD9635, is also available, enabling an easy migration path between 12-bit and 14-bit converters with sampling rates from 20 to 125 Msample/s.(ea/1,000, AD9645(125 MSPS), $51.99; AD9645(80 MSPS), $27.99 — available now)
