Dual-core Cortex-R5 based MCUs handle safety

The Hercules RM57L843 and TMS570LC4357 32-bit microcontrollers use dual lockstep Cortex-R5 cores and target functional safety applications. The RM57L aids designers meeting IEC 61508 functional safety standards for industrial and medical areas, while the TMS570LC MCU is for the ISO 26262 functional safety for transportation applications.

The devices have a cached memory architecture with speeds up to 330 MHz, up to 4 Mbytes of flash, 512 Kbytes of RAM, 128 Kbytes of Data flash, and 550 peak DMIPS performance. They both have a 10/100 Mbps Ethernet MAC, a 16-bit external memory interface, two 12-bit buffered A/D converters, and four CAN controllers. The TMS570 also has a FlexRay interface.
