Dual IF VGAs for wireless transceivers reduce noise disfiguration

Dual IF VGAs for wireless transceivers reduce noise disfiguration

Suited for multimode 2G/3G/4G wireless base station transceivers, the IDT F1240 and F1241 FlatNoise dual IF VGAs offer the industry’s best noise figure of 4 dB for maximum gain and virtually no degradation when gain is reduced. The devices are based on FlatNoise technology, which eliminates noise figure degradation for the critical top 13-dB section of a wide 31-dB gain control range — a contrast to other IF VGAs, which typically exhibit a decibel-for-decibel degradation in noise figure as gain is reduced.

Features include a low distortion (OIP3) of 49 dBm, a frequency range of 10 to 500 MHz, a gain step error of only 0.04 dB, and a power consumption of 80 mA per channel. A parallel or serial communication interface provides control of a 6-bit (0.5 dB: F1240) or 5-bit (1.0 dB: F1241) resolution. Housed in a 32-pin QFN package, the parts also feature a typical maximum gain of 20 dB. ( Currently sampling to qualified customers and are available in a 5×5-mm 32-pin QFN package; for more, visit www.idt.com/go/RF.)
