Dual-output step-down converter boosts 12-V adapter efficiency
Integrated buck converter and LDO saves power and reduces footprint
The AAT2688 is an integrated synchronous step-down converter and LDO regulator for 12-V adapter systems, suiting the device for system-on a-chip power solutions for consumer communications equipment. The device uses a high-voltage modular BCD process to save power and reduce thermal dissipation.
Channel one on the buck converter operates from 6 to 24-V input, delivers a 4.5-A output, and converts 12 V to 3.3 V at a 4.5-A load with up to 90% efficiency. A 490-kHz fixed switching frequency supports the use of 22-µF output capacitors and 4.7-µH output inductor as filtering components. Voltage-mode control optimizes operation across the entire output voltage and load range. The buck converter offers accuracy ±1.5%.
The second channel provides a 2.7 to 5.5-V input voltage LDO and delivers up to 600-mA output current. Typical output noise is 250 µVrms. The device also features internal soft start, as well as overcurrent and overtemperature protection circuits. It is qualified from –40° to 85°C. It comes in a 4 x 5-mm, 24-pin TQFN package.
