Dual SLICs deliver programmable global compliance in small footprint

Dual SLICs deliver programmable
global compliance in small footprint

Interfaces use less than 2 in.2 of
board space for a complete

two-channel solution The Dual ProSLIC integrated subscriber line
interface circuits (SLICs) claim to be the
industry's smallest such devices to combine
software-programmable global compliance with
integrated test and line-monitoring features.
This combination of features reduces subscriber
line provisioning and service costs while
requiring less than 2 in.2 of board
space for complete two-line POTS. Using 50% fewer discrete components than
alternative solutions, the family consists of the
Si3220 for shorter-loop customer premise
equipment applications (2,000 to 12,000 ft), and
the Si3225, for central-office and long-loop
applications (up to 18,000 ft). The Si3220
provides internal ringing generation to eliminate
the need for an external ringing generator and
ringing relays; the Si3225 provides full
compatibility with existing access
infrastructures using a centralized ringing
architecture. The SLICs are paired with the Si3200 line feed
interface IC, which integrates minimal
high-voltage circuitry to enable the Si3220 and
Si3225 to control and monitor the telephone line.
Both ProSLIC devices provide all battery,
overvoltage protection, ringing, supervision,
codec, hybrid, and testing functions.

The SLICs are available in 64-pin TQFPs, while
the Si3200 is housed in a 16-pin SOIC. (From
$5.14 ea/10,000; evaluation boards, $150–samples
available now; prod qty, 1st qtr 2002.)
