Dynamic braking resistor replaces larger wirewounds

Dynamic braking resistor replaces larger wirewounds

Handles load-dump and capacitor-discharge duties in motion-control applications

Manufactured with the company’s Anotherm substrate technology, the WDBR Series thick-film planar dynamic braking resistor offers designers of motion-control systems a low-inductance replacement for larger wirewounds. The flameproof power resistor is rated to 400°C and 7 kW to enable thermal transfer in load-dump and capacitor-discharge applications such as dynamic braking of motors and voltage bus clamp and trickle-charge circuits in industrial electronics, UPSs, and heavy-duty battery backup systems.

Thermal expansion coefficients between the stainless steel and the dielectric films are closely matched to enable the resistor to withstand severe temperature cycling in high pulse applications. Resistance values range from 12 to 150 Ω, tolerance is to ±10%, and dielectric withstanding voltage is 2,500 Vdc min. Inductance values range from less than 3 to less than 6 µH.
