Delta-Q Technologies will provide battery charging solutions for the BCN City and BCN Sport Volta motorbikes. The new motorcycles were released for sale in October 2015 to the European market. Each motorcycle features Delta-Q’s QuiQ 1000 Industrial Battery Charger on-board, paired with a 3 kWh lithium polymer (LiPo) battery pack. A full charge takes two hours on a standard 220-V ac-outlet, and the bikes have a 70-kilometer (43.5 miles) maximum range. This isn’t that much range for travel between cities but is enough for daily travel within a small city. The Volta motorcycles cost about 8,000 to 9,000 Euro. I haven’t found any specs on the max speed but for in-city travel they only need to keep up with the traffic.
Some great features include smartphone connectivity that provides the motorcycle’s owner with status information about location and charging status. Since the QuiQ Charger is located on-board, the bike can be charged on a standard electrical outlet. Volta developed its own lithium-ion battery pack, vehicle control unit (VCU) and motor controller. More than 50 sensors ensure that the energy storage system is optimized at all times. The QuiQ Charger runs an algorithm custom-made for Volta, with the VCU able to enable or disable the charger at any time.
