Orion Fans launched a new family of electronically commutated (EC) fans designed to provide cooling solutions for AC applications that prioritize low power and energy savings. With a brushless DC motor and voltage transformation inside the motor, the fans offer lower overall power consumption, up to 50%, according to the company. This enables customers to meet energy-consumption requirements for programs like Energy Star.
The EC fans are available in 60-mm, 120-mm, 172-mm, and 250-mm sizes. Most of the models are available with a universal voltage range. The 250-mm fans can be purchased with dual-speed functions in 115-V and 230-V models. The series also includes 60-mm, 120-mm, and 172-mm models with IP68-ATEX ratings, enabling them to be used in applications that might involve flammable gas or explosive atmospheres.
The company identifies several applications for which the fans would be well-suited, including appliances, refrigeration, commercial and process control, HVAC, electrical enclosures, and cabinets. The fans maintain the same interface between fan and equipment, which allows them to be used as drop-in replacements for the same-sized AC fans, said the company.
The OA200EC Series of 250-mm fans can be customized to change the speed control limits that come factory-standard for additional power savings. These fans feature dual-speed control (1,400 RPM and 2,200 RPM) with airflow values of 300 CFM and 480 CFM.
Pricing for the EC fans starts at $26 in small quantities.
