Electronics West hosts latestcomponent technology

Electronics West may not have the name or reputation that a trade show like Wescon had, but it’s one of the best shows I attend for a number of reasons. Let me start by saying that the show is colocated with other very interesting efforts such as ATX West, MD&M West, Pacific Design & Manufacturing, and the newly added Green Manufacturing Expo, so component manufacturers who attend typically present a lot of new technology.

Because of the looming MD&M and packaging shows, many of the suppliers are typically showing products that are designed for use in medical or automation-type applications. The colocated shows—eight in total—attract a decent number of suppliers of electronic components, such as manufacturers of switches, sensors, motors and controls, materials, connectors, passive components, power-related devices, and much more.

Two apparently new additions are a series of courses and conferences that sound interesting. The Surface-Mount Technology Association will offer courses such as: Practical Innovations for 3-D Packaging of ICs; Selecting a Lead-Free Solution for Military, Avionic, and Space Applications; and Advanced SMT.

The Green Manufacturing Conference will run two days and feature discussions on topics such as: Current Product and Facility Regulations; Green Manufacturing Considerations Around the World; Alternative Packaging; and Current International Green Manufacturing Issues.

The show runs from Monday, Jan. 28 to Thursday, Jan. 31 at the Anaheim Convention Center in Anaheim, CA. Go to http://www.electronicswestshow.com for more information.
