Embedded Developer & EEWeb host an “MCU Wars” Debate on Motor Control Applications featuring Texas Instruments and Renesas

This new debate platform will be the first in a series of live debates and discussions between competitors on different design solutions

Hearst Electronics Group, Uniondale, New York, September 18, 2012…. Embedded Developer, LLC and Aspen Labs, LLC, Hearst Electronics Group JVs, announce the launch of an exciting and innovative debate platform called MCU Wars (www.embeddeddeveloper.com/mcu-wars-episode-1.php). With a focus on “Discussing the Future of Design,” EEWeb and Embedded Developer have jointly produced and launched the MCU Wars series. MCU Wars is the industry’s first interactive debate platform, where suppliers participate in debates and lively discussions with other suppliers on their unique approaches and products for design solutions.

The program was developed using a unique interactive video platform and is hosted on both EEWeb.com and Embedded Developer.com, and can also be viewed on YouTube. Episode 1 features Ritesh Tyagi, Sr. Director of MCU Marketing at Renesas Electronics, and Chris Clearman, Worldwide Manager of Motor Solutions at Texas Instruments debating different MCU and Tools approaches to designing motor control applications in home appliances.

Episode 1 is divided into three 10-minute (approximate) segments: demands of the home appliance market on microcontrollers and how expectations of MCU suppliers have evolved, a background of the technical challenges that manufacturers face with respect to motor control, and development tools and software provided by Renesas and TI to speed design time in motor control applications.

Landing pages on EEWeb and Embedded Developer feature links to documentation on the MCUs, tools and applications-specific devices discussed in the episode as well as articles, whitepapers, training videos and other support material for both fact-checking as well as reference.

Glenn ImObersteg, the President of Embedded Developer, says: “We’ve had a remarkable reaction from the industry following the launch of this program, and it’s not surprising–design engineers are inundated with almost every media imaginable about MCUs and tools–but until now, they’ve never seen two competing semiconductor manufacturers debate their different solutions face-to-face. Now, through this new program, they can immerse themselves in the discussion and watch our engineers moderate as they face-off on ways to solve real-world design problems. We call them debates, but they’re really amicable discussions between competitors with no clear winner—except of course, the viewer.”

Cody Miller, the President of Aspen Labs and EEWeb states: “The first episode was a win-win for all parties involved. Renesas and TI, two of the leaders in this market, were able to demonstrate and share their motor control technology with a large engineering audience. This program is exciting and we look forward to continue discussing the future of MCU design. ’

There are 4 more MCU Wars episodes currently in production for 2012, and a full roster of debates between suppliers in the MCU, SBC, Hardware and Software Tools, EDA, Analog, Power, and other arenas are planned for 2013.
