Emerson Network Power 16-Slot ATCA System First in Industry to Pass Most Rigorous CP-TA Cooling Tests
Second generation ATCA 10GbE platform delivers integrated solution for high-bandwidth applications
Tempe, Ariz [October 1, 2008] – Emerson Network Power, a business of Emerson (NYSE:EMR) and the global leader in enabling Business-Critical Continuity™, today announced that the Centellis 4620 is the industry’s first 16-slot AdvancedTCA (ATCA) platform to pass the rigorous Communications Platform Trade Association (CP-TA) B.4 level, the CP-TA’s highest level of thermal performance.
“The CP-TA B.4 testing is important because it ensures thermal interoperability, which is key to the ecosystem,” said Todd Keaffaber, CP-TA Technical Work Group Chair. “A system that has passed the B.4 thermal test enables blades from different manufacturers to be used with the confidence that they will meet NEBS requirements. This gives customers increased choice with less risk in terms of interoperability issues.”
The Centellis 4620’s 16-slot, 23” form factor, is designed to maximize slot density, and along with the CP-TA B.4 testing achievement, optimizes performance and flexibility. With 10Gbps internal Ethernet switching fabric and high performance payload blades, the Centellis 4620 is specifically designed to address the unique carrier-grade requirements of the telecommunications industry. Target applications include wireless infrastructure, packetized voice, wireline data, and cable network head-end equipment.
“By successfully passing the CP-TA’s highest level for thermal performance, the Centellis 4620 is another industry first for Emerson Network Power’s ATCA portfolio,” said Jorge Magalhaes, vice president of marketing for the Embedded Computing business of Emerson Network Power. “This new integrated solution will help NEPs deliver products that address the high-bandwidth and packet processing requirements of data plane elements in a broad array of applications, such as 4G wireless, Video on Demand, WiMAX and IPTV.”
At the heart of the Centellis 4620 platform are the AXP1620 ATCA shelf and the ATCA-F120 system controller and switch blade. The AXP1620 shelf includes redundant shelf manager and alarm modules, redundant power entry modules (PEMs) and redundant fan trays. The Centellis 4620 platform also includes the ATCA-9301 Cavium blade, whose architecture permits packet processing tasks such as forwarding, packet inspection, and security functions to be done in parallel with control plane tasks at a lower total cost of ownership.
Tested according to the CP-TA Test Procedure Manual (TPM) and compliant with all the requirements of the CP-TA Interoperability Compliance Document (ICD), the Centellis 4620’s slot airflows meet or exceed the fan failure criteria during the replacement interval. This added benefit – which reduces the risk of board overheating – enables the shelf to support unlimited service interval time for the boards designed in compliance with the CP-TA (ICD) 1.1 B.4 airflow criteria at up to 40C temperature during fan failure condition.
The Centellis 4620 is available for purchase now.
