Emulator adapter eases probing of PGAs in tight spaces
Designers often face the problem of trying to access a pin-grid-array
(PGA) on a board under test with an emulator probe, in a tight space. An
emulator adapter from Emulation Technology rotates the probe 90 degrees
in either direction. This feature enables the designer to rotate and
attach an emulator pod that would otherwise not fit in the work space.
Besides easing probing in these tight areas, the rotating adapter
eliminates the need for extender cables that would introduce noise,
crosstalk, and other problems into the test setup. If a quarter-turn is
insufficient, the adapters can be stacked for 180 degrees rotation.
Adapters are available for either clockwise or counter-clockwise rotation.
Device-specific adapters with the rotation feature are available to
support most microprocessors from Intel, Motorola, and Advanced Micro
Devices. Universal rotators with pin counts from 121 to 324 are also
available. ($364 to $972–10 days ARO.) Emulation Technology, Inc. Santa
