Enclosures use plastic and aluminum for strength, versatility

The Synergy electronic enclosures series makes use of both plastic and aluminum for added strength and versatility. The series consists of 36 individual enclosures with a high-quality surface finish, and is aimed at modern, high-value handheld, desktop, and wall-mounted electronics for applications such as medical and therapeutic systems, measurement and control technology, home automation, peripherals, and building-services electronics.

The main body section of each case is extruded from AlMgSi 0.5 aluminum, blasted with glass beads, and anodized in silver (or black on request). A fast-connect system uses four internal assembly pillars to hold each enclosure together; the glass-reinforced-polyamide pillars snap in to the recessed top panel, position the body extrusion, and are fixed to the bottom part with four anti-tamper screws. Top and base sections are manufactured from UV-resistant ASA+PC-FR (UL 94 V-0); black (RAL 9005) is standard but custom colors can be specified. PCBs can be mounted in the top and bottom, and cables up to 0.12-in. diameter can be routed out of the bottom part; there is lots of space for interfaces on the other surfaces.

The enclosures are available now in Square and Edge (rectangular) shapes, with Round and Oval cases to follow shortly. Square models are offered in three footprints — 3.94 x 3.94 in., 4.72 x 4.72 in., and 5.51 x 5.51 in. and three heights — 1.57, 2.76, or 3.94 in. Edge (rectangular) models are also offered in three footprints — 6.30 x 3.15 in., 7.09 x 3.54 in, and 7.87 x 3.94 in. — in heights of 1.57, 2.76, or 3.94 in. Several pillars can optionally be snapped together to create custom heights in 0.20-in.increments, and options and accessories also include battery compartments for three or four 1.5V AA cells, and a one-screw wall-mounting kit. Prices start at $47.
