Energy measurement SoC targets servers, datacom equipment

The 78M6613 is presented as the industry’s first SoC energy-measurement solution for ac/dc power supplies that brings a higher level of management and control to servers and other equipment in data centers. The chip enables the capture and reporting of real-time energy data, which provides data center managers with the ability to quantify where energy is needed, being used, and being stranded.

The 32-pin QFN energy measurement package has an embedded analog front-end and compute engine, embedded firmware, and is optimized to address the precision energy measurement inside ac/dc power supplies. It features best-in-class accuracy of ±0.5% over a 2,000:1 dynamic range, and provides tools for self-calibration. The chip integrates a single-phase, self-contained ac power-measurement and monitoring with embedded ac load monitoring and control firmware. It features ac power diagnostics, including power, power factor, voltage current, voltage sag and dip. An on-chip flash and a microcontroller enable the storage of calibration coefficients. The device suits server power supplies and energy-measurement needs in data communications and storage equipment, as well as home appliances, home automation networks, and building automation.
