Epson expands RTC module portfolio

Epson’s new ultra-compact, low power RTC module families target industrial, commercial and automotive applications.

New requirements for timing solutions include greater integration and efficiency, accuracy over a wide temperature range and increased functionality. To meet these demands, Epson expanded its line of real-time clock (RTC) modules, integrating the crystal unit and IC into a single package for commercial, industrial and automotive applications. The new RTC module families include the RX4901CE and RX8901CE for industrial and commercial markets and the RA4000CE and RA8000CE for the automotive applications.

In the industrial/commercial segment, the RX4901CE and RX8901CE families target applications include utility smart meters, surveillance security systems, industrial factory automation equipment, commercial smart lighting systems and a variety of small electronic products. These modules feature an integrated 32.768-kHz digital temperature compensated crystal oscillator (DTCXO), three event detection pins, and a time stamp function that records up to 32 dates and times when an external or internal event occurs, and RTC functions such as time and calendar, time alarm, wakeup timer and time update interrupts.

Both RTC modules feature an auto power switching function that includes a control circuit to prevent reverse current to the main power supply, a continuous temperature-corrected 32.768-kHz clock generation, and Seiko Epson’s original low current consumption technology. Both families deliver long battery life on various systems.

The RA8804CE, RA8000CE and RA4000CE automotive RTC modules deliver low-power, high-accuracy timing, addressing a variety of automotive applications.

Designed for battery management systems, in-vehicle networking and infotainment systems, the RA4000CE and RA8000CE automotive RTC modules feature an integrated 32.768-kHz DTCXO. Functions include a second-to-year clock/calendar with leap-year correction, time alarm, wakeup timer, time update interrupts, clock output and a time stamp function that records two times and dates when an external or internal event occurs. It also resets self-monitoring functions. These families are compliant with AEC-Q100 and low-power operation for automotive applications.
