ESD device improves high-speed IC protection
Double-clamping architecture integrates multiple stages of ESD protection in single part
Housed in an SOT23-6 package, the CM1231-02SO is the first of the company’s XtremeESD protection devices, which use the new Picoguard XP double-clamping architecture that integrates multiple stages of ESD protection into a single device. The new architecture is said to improve the protection of sensitive high-speed ICs compared to currently available devices by providing a 40% reduction in peak clamping voltage (+9 V/1.4 V) and a 40% reduction in peak residual current (2.3 A typ), as well as a greater than 65% reduction in total power reaching the ASIC.
The PicoGuard XP architecture uses a dual-stage design that places two ESD devices and a resistor in series within the same package. The first ESD circuit absorbs the largest portion of the strike, while the second provides additional clamping and a secondary shunt path to steer current away from the system IC being protected.
