ESD protection devices offer ultra-low capacitance

Taiwan Semiconductor’s TESD series of ESD protection devices claim the lowest capacitance, providing protection at high-speed data rates.

Taiwan Semiconductor has introduced the TESD Series of ESD protection devices, touting ultra-low capacitance (CJ) to protect devices at high-speed data rates, while maintaining signal integrity.  The series offers a selection of SMD components that provide single and multiple as well as unidirectional and bidirectional versions for applications such as I/O ports (USB 2.0, USB 3.0, HDMI), audio systems and power ports.

In I/O port applications, the TESD Series devices meet regulatory requirements including repetitive application of IEC61000-4-2 (ESD) ±15 kV (air), ±10 kV (contact) and IEC61000-4-5 (Lightning): 5.5 A (8/20 μs). They also meet 30 KV contact/air requirements for power port applications. The TESD devices are said to meet all global environmental requirements.

The TESD series offers several devices with ultra-low capacitance. These include the TESDH5V0B05P1Q1 with a capacitance of 0.40 pF (typ.) and the TESDH3V3B02P4Q2 with a capacitance of 0.21 pF(typ.). For complete product specifications visit the ESD protection IC and ESD protection diode and array product pages.

The devices’ ultra-low capacitance is essential for ±3.3 V or other nominal operating voltage applications operating at high data rates, said Taiwan Semiconductor. “The ESD protection devices ideally have little to no effect on normal operation while retaining the ability to survive repeated application of ESD discharges.”

Pricing for the TESD series starts from $0.0848, depending on the part number and volume. They are in-stock at Digi-Key and Mouser Electronics. Taiwan Semiconductor will be exhibiting at APEC 2023 (March 19-23) in booth 762.
