ESD protection diode guards portables completely
As ICs in portable devices continually get smaller, they become more susceptible to ESD damage. At the same time, portables require lower capacitances to maintain the signal integrity of high-speed data-line applications. Traditional off-chip protection solutions like TVSs, ceramic varistors, or polymeric devices require tradeoffs in either capacitance or protection ability.
Basically a Zener diode, the 1 x 0.6 x 0.4-mm ESD9L5.0S unidirectional protection diode employs a proprietary process technology that integrates ultra-low-capacitance pin diodes with high-power TVS diodes into a monolithic die to reduce capacitances from 50 to 0.5 pF while still offering the ability to clamp a 15-kV input ESD waveform to less than 7 V in nanoseconds.
