eTree provides free Wi-Fi and charging

Sologic’s eTree is equipped with USB charging points and a Wi-Fi connection

Love technology but want to stay connected to nature? Then get ready to plug in your phone and charge it up with free green energy, because the eTree is out to breathe life into the World Wide Web.

Created by the Israel-based firm Sologic, the eTree is a life-sized “tree” with solar panel branches that harvest sunlight and provide shade. It’s equipped with USB charging points and a bench beneath it to allow passers-by to rest and recharge their devices. If you’re eager to get back online, the eTree provides a Wi-Fi connection, and if you happen to need a power-up at night, it offers illumination. On top of all of that, an LCD screen is used to display information, such as the amount of electricity being generated by the tree.

Sologic sees the eTree partly as a social-environmental enterprise and as an ecological sculpture meant to promote environmental awareness and sustainability, while also bridging the gap between the community and its environment. The eTree is designed for use in residential and urban areas such as courtyards, schools, universities, and parks. It can be configured according to the requirements of the specific site.

The first eTree was recently “planted” in the Ramat Hanadiv nature park in Israel. To learn more, tune into the video below for an overview of the eTree.
