Facebook Home for Android

Facebook has big plans for the Android market.  The social-media leader came up with Facebook Home, an Android app that puts friends above all else.  As it replaces the home screen and app launcher interface, it produces what is called a coverfeed, a streaming for your Facebook newsfeeds, which automatically keeps you up to date with what your friends are sharing.

One advantage of Facebook Home is how the notifications from both your phone and Facebook are integrated.  Notifications are pushed across the Facebook Home home screen.  You can flip through the statuses and double-tap the screen to “like” them.  You can also flick notifications away from view or move them for later viewing.

The first phone to have this interface will be the HTC First.  All notifications for apps will appear on the home screen through Facebook Home.  As for other Androids, it will only be Facebook notifications.

Another advantage that this interface has is the ability to not have to navigate away from what you are doing to respond to a text or Facebook message.  It appears on the screen as a pop-up and chats can be moved around the screen while the user is, let’s say, doing research online.

Facebook Home was announced last Thursday, and it will be released on April 12 via Google Play. Along with the HTC First, the app will next be made available for HTC One, the HTC One X, Samsung Galaxy III, Samsung Galaxy Note II, and the upcoming Samsung Galaxy G4.

Future phones will be given access to this interface as well.
