Fairchild Semiconductor's Green FPS Power Switch was Selected as the “Best New Application-Specific IC” by SemiApps
Fairchild Semiconductor’s Green FPS power switch, the FSFR2100, was voted February’s most popular application-specific IC on semiapps.com. This highly integrated power switch increases power efficiency and system reliability, and reduces valuable design time in resonant converter designs such as telecom power, high-end audio amplifiers, large-size laser printers and LCD and PDP TV power supplies.
The FSFR2100 features a zero voltage switching (ZVS) technique that dramatically reduces switching losses in MOSFETs and rectifiers. With this technique, this FPS switch can handle up to 200W without a heat sink and up to 450W with a heat sink. Compared to conventional hard-switch converter topologies, efficiency is improved by 10 percent and for applications such as PDP-TVs, efficiency reaches 97 percent. An additional advantage of the ZVS technique is the dramatically reduced switching noise – at least 5dB – compared to hard switching techniques. Offering burst operation function, the FSFR2100 brings standby power consumption below 1Watt to easily achieve the industry's 1 Watt Initiative.
During the month of February, Fairchild’s FSFR2100 received the best on-line posting by SemiApps readers for application-specific ICs on Hearst’s SemiApps site.
