A new company called Hydreon Corporation presented a simple solution to this problem at CES- a fake television.
No, it's not actually a whole TV set. It's a tiny device that you plug in and it recreates exactly the sort of light produced by a real HDTV.
According to the company, most burglars will not break into an occupied house.
“So, when a prowler sees the flickering glow that means someone is home watching TV and he knows to move on to an easier target,” said Hydreon Corporation.
FakeTV includes a built in light sensor and timer and is only about the size of a cup of coffee. It emits a light output equivalent to a 27-inch HDTV and saves energy since it only consumes the same amount of power as a night-light.
What makes it look so real is the simulation of scene and color changes like in on-screen motion.
So far the company has sold over 200,000 FakeTVs.
So what do you think? Can a little device really send the burglars away?
