Fast μW sig gen delivers high power, low noise

Covering 1 to 22 GHz, the SMF100A analog microwave signal generator has typical output power of +26 dBm and phase noise as low as -115 dBc (at a 10-kHz offset from carrier). Its normal settling time—4 ms for frequency and 3 ms for level—can be reduced to <700 µs with list mode, a programmable way to sequentially set up to 65,000 frequency/level pairs.

The generator’s signal quality suits it for two-tone-measurements or as a local oscillator for phase-noise measurements, in addition to traditional applications. With block-diagram setup displays and intuitive menus to simplify operation, the instrument can add frequency- or phase-modulated noise to its output signal.
