Fast SSDs have up to 480-Gbyte capacity

The TeraDrive CT solid-state disk drives use a SATA-II 3 Gbit/s interface and a SandForce 1222 SSD processor to yield up to 285- and 275-Mbyte/s read/write speeds. The drives’ Garbage Collection and TRIM support ensure sustainable performance over the life of the unit.

The 2.5-in. drives use MLC NAND flash and come in 60-, 120-, 240-, and 480-Gbyte versions. The SSDs run from a single 5-V supply and are said to have an MTBF of >1,000,000 hours. (60-Gbyte drive, $199, 240-Gbyte drive, $669 — available now.)
