FFT analysis handles field applications

The HP 35670A is a portable dynamic FFT analyzer that provides two input
channels (four optional) in a package small enough to fit under an
airplane seat. The analyzer can be configured for applications in
control-system characterization, rotating machinery evaluation, vibration
analysis, acoustics, and general spectrum and network analysis. It has a
dynamic range of 90 dB typ and a real-time bandwidth of 25.6 kHz with 800
lines of resolution, which provides laboratory-grade measurements in the
field. Using the standard two-channel HP 35670A, 102.4-kHz spectrum and
51.2-kHz network measurements are possible. The four-channel version
provides 51.2-kHz spectrum and network measurements. All measurements are
completely alias protected. Standard data-format utilities provided with
the HP 35670A are used to exchange data between virtually all HP dynamic
signal analyzers, to transfer data to analysis packages such as MATLAB or
Matrix X, or to convert data to ASCII format for transfer to spreadsheets
such as Lotus 1-2-3 or Microsoft Excel. The HP 35670A weighs under 30 lb,
and measures only 7.5 (H) x 13.4 (W) x 18.3 (D) in. A wide range of
options besides four-channel operation are available. ($16,900;
four-channel configuration, $21,900–4 weeks ARO.) Hewlett-Packard Co.
