Fiber-optic link adopts RS-422 protocol
The Model 272 is a miniaturized converter that uses the full-duplex
RS-422 protocol across full-duplex fiber-optic cable. The converter has a
differential transmit and receive interface and supports data rates up to
2.5 Mbaud. The RS-422 port is implemented with a DB-25 female connector
while the fiber-optic ports are implemented using the standard ST
connector. The design has been optimized for 62.5/125-μ fiber-optic
cable, although other sizes may be used. The optical signal wavelength is
830 nm with a power budget of approximately 10 dB. The Model 272 can
communicate over distances of up to 2 km and is powered from a small,
wall-mounted transformer. ($152–3 to 4 weeks to be verified.) Telebyte
