First commercial SiC Schottky diodes suit MW systems

The CPW5 Z-Rec SiC Schottky diodes, are the industry’s first commercially available family of 50-A SiC rectifiers. They feature high efficiency and improved reliability compared to other semiconductor technologies and support systems from 50 kW to over 1 MW. The diodes support solar, PV inverters, industrial power supplies, induction heating, battery charging stations, wind turbine converters, and traction inverter applications.

Developed to aid the matching of 50-A diodes to 50-A MOSFETs or IGBTs, these Schottky diodes reduce system complexity and cost by enabling the replacement of multiple low-voltage, low-current SiC Schottky diodes, or silicon PiN diodes, with a single CPW5 rectifier. The devices also help eliminate snubber circuitry due to the diminished voltage overshoot during switching. The diodes also provide a peak forward surge resistance greater than 500 A repetitive and 2,000 A non-repetitive, delivering increased reliability under the harshest electrical conditions.
