Fixed-output buck regulator delivers greater than 80% efficiency at 1 mA

Fixed-output buck regulator delivers >80% efficiency at 1 mA

The FAN5358 step-down switching voltage regulator delivers a fixed output from an input voltage supply of 2.7 to 5.5 V. Using a proprietary architecture with synchronous rectification, the device delivers 500 mA and maintains >80% efficiency at load currents as low as 1 mA. At moderate and light loads, it uses pulse frequency modulation to operate the device in power-save mode, consuming 25-µA typ quiescent current. Even with such a low quiescent current, the device provides excellent transient response during large load swings. Additionally, in shutdown mode, the supply current drops below 1 µA.
