Flex Power Modules has introduced its first two-phase voltage regulator module (VRM), the BMR510, with a continuous total output current of 80 A (40 A per phase continuous current). It can deliver a total of 140-A peak output at 0.5-1.3 V from an input of 4.5-16 V.
The BMR510 offers an efficiency of 88.5% at 13.5 Vin/0.8 Vout /40-A load. Measuring less than 0.7 cm3 (10 × 9 × 7.6 mm), the VRM provides a complete power stage, including magnetics, making it suited for space-constrained applications. End-use targets include power silicon devices such as CPUs, GPUs, IPUs, high-end FPGAs, and high-performance ASICs with a current demand of over 100 A, which is commonly found in the latest artificial intelligence (AI) applications, said the company. In addition to AI, the device also can be used in big data and autonomous vehicle applications.
The halogen-free BMR510 is optimized for top-side cooling. The device features LGA or optionally solder-bump terminations, which eases assembly. The module accepts tri-state PWM inputs and includes an enable input. Over-temperature and over-current protection are included, and values are sensed for remote monitoring. Thermal models are available.
The BMR510 is halogen-free and will be released into production in the first quarter of 2022. Samples are available now. Future devices will offer different variations of total number of phases, available output current, and sizes.
