Flex Power Modules upgrades power designer tool

Flex Power Modules has released the latest version of its power designer tool with new features, including a 3D visualization tool.

Flex Power Modules has announced the latest release of its Flex Power Designer (FPD) tool, which enables designers to simulate, configure and optimize power systems using the company’s DC/DC converters. Key improvements with the version 4.5 include a new 3D visualization tool and a bus voltage optimization feature.

”This major new revision of our power designer tool will make it even easier for users to visualize the performance of Flex Power Modules products, both physically with the 3D simulation feature and electrically with a range of new functions, said Anders Sellin, strategic product manager, Flex Power Modules, in a statement.

With the tool, designers can select catalog products and virtually configure them into a system ‘power tree’, set input rails and loads and predict performance results, said the company. The tool can predict basic performance as well as a variety of key specs such as module and system efficiencies, power dissipation, temperature rises, output impedance, loop compensation effects, and voltage excursions with transient loads.

The tool also can define and display relationships between voltage rails. This includes paralleling, phase spreading, sequencing and fault spreading, using the standard PMBus protocol.

The new version includes support for the Xilinx Versal Adaptive Compute Acceleration Platform (ACAP) as well as for new products such as the BMR313, BR314 and BMR320. The new release also offers new enhanced thermal models for certain parts and a SMBus tool for control and production programming available as a separate download. Bug fixes also are included in the 4.5 version.

The free FPD tool is downloadable from the Flex Power Modules website. Existing users can upgrade via an update link in the application.
