FPC/FFC connectors save board space

Hirose’s back-flip FPC/FFC connectors offer dual-contact functionality for simpler flex routing, targeting space-constrained applications.

Hirose Electric Co., Ltd. has extended its portfolio of back-flip FPC/FFC connectors with a 0.5-mm pitch version that offers dual-contact functionality to simplify flex routing. The TF07V Series saves board space with a height of 2.1 mm, making it suited for consumer electronics, industrial robotics and medical applications that require miniature and rugged connectivity solutions.

Offering higher reliability, the top and bottom contact design provides board design flexibility and ease of assembly while the back-flip design increases the FPC/FFC retention in the vertical direction, Hirose said.

Compared to front-flip connectors, the TF07V Series  of back-flip FPC/FFC connectors is reported to offer a higher retention force and protection during installation. The TF07V Series is delivered with the actuator open, and mating is completed in two steps of FPC/FFC insertion and closing the actuator.

“The TF07V Series back-flip FPC/FFC connector offers space-savings that enables a reduction in size of electronic devices without sacrificing performance and durability,” said Pete Lais, assistant vice president of product management for Hirose Electric Americas, in a statement. “The TF07V Series design all but eliminates dust from causing contact failure. The back-flip design is impervious to debris, ensuring the prevention of any unexpected actuator openings after installation.”

The TF07V Series is available in 30, 40, 50 and 60 positions. Rated current is 0.5 A and rated voltage is 50 VAC/VDC. The operating temperature range is -40 ℃ to 85 ℃.
