Gate-drive xformers save board space

EP5 SMT B82804A pulse transformers are designed to couple gate-drive circuits to MOSFETs and IGBTs at switching frequencies of of 150 kHz to several megahertz. The small transformer size — only 8.1 x 6.7 x 5.4 mm — results in significant space savings on the circuit board. A special winding technology enables parasitic capacitances between only 25 and 95 pF, depending on the type. Stray inductances are also low, ranging between 0.9 and 2.5 µH.

Short-term dielectric strength is tested to 1,500 Vdc for all types of the series. The components are designed for ambient temperatures of up to 85°C and operating temperatures of up to 125°C. The transformers are available with a wide range of turns ratios, polarities, and outputs. Target applications of these new transformers are the coupling of gate-drive circuits in half and full-bridge converters as well as in frequency converters or inverters.
