Infineon Technologies AG has extended its portfolio of isolated EiceDRIVER Enhanced gate drivers with the F3 Enhanced (1ED332x) family with short-circuit protection. These devices provide protection for both conventional power switches, such as IGBTs, as well as Infineon’s CoolSiC wide-bandgap devices. Applications for the driver family include industrial drives, solar systems, electric vehicle charging, energy storage systems, and commercial air conditioning.
The EiceDRIVER F3 Enhanced, housed in a 300 mil wide-body DSO 16 package with a creepage distance of 8 mm, provides short-circuit clamping and active shutdown as well as an active Miller clamp. They are suitable for operation at high ambient temperatures (-40°C to 125°C) and in fast switching applications, making them suited for rugged environments and conventional IGBTs, IGBT7, and silicon carbide (SiC) MOSFETs.
The single-channel isolated gate driver family offers a high common-mode transient immunity (CMTI) of up to 300 kV/us and typical output currents of up to 8.5 A. The F3 Enhanced devices also provide tight propagation delay matching (15 ns maximum) for minimum deadtime, which improves system efficiency and decreases harmonic distortion, said Infineon.
The devices are designed for wide power ranges and support 40-V absolute maximum output voltage. With a 2300-V capability, the family supports power switches beyond 1200-V blocking voltage.
The EiceDRIVER F3 Enhanced and the evaluation board EVAL-1ED3321MC12N can be ordered now. They are certified to UL 1577 and VDE 0884-11 (reinforced isolation). Infineon also offers the EiceDRIVER X3 enhanced analog and digital gate drivers, introduced in 2020, for a range of industrial applications.
